Follow these in order if your child is starting phonics practice. Age ranges are guidance, not entry requirements.

Step 1

CV Flashcards – Part 1

Practise
Saying a consonant sound, saying a vowel sound and blending them together.
Helpful before starting
The child should already recognise the letter sounds shown, with adult support as needed.

CVC Find the Match

Practise
Blending 12 short words and matching each word to its picture.

The child knows common letter sounds and can blend two sounds together.
